The Other Art Fair Los Angeles

The Other Art Fair Los Angeles

I have just arrived back from Los Angeles following my debut at The Other Art Fair. I left the UK feeling a little apprehensive as to what to expect or how my work would be received. Luckily a friend and fellow artist Tim Fowler was also exhibiting and we had decided to share an apartment together,  which proved a great move. We spent our mornings before the Art fair walking along Santa Monica beach followed by a visit to a food truck selling probably the best burritos I have ever had!

I arrived at the fair at Barker Hanger in Santa Monica and what an amazing space it was. I had bought along a lot of my work but namely I was debuting ‘In Brands we Trust’ which is my first ever sculpture along with ‘Legend’ which was a 4ft x 6ft original oil on canvas painting. This I happily sold on the first day.

I was also very flattered to be invited, along with some other artists to create a piece that would reflect what it would have been like for David Hockney to experience LA culture and living in the 1960’s. I chose to take my own interpretation of the brief …of course…. and I created ‘Father I have forsaken Thee’, a limited edition print which I took framed and painted.

Yes, of course the 60’s was a magical time but it was also a time of huge unrest within civil rights groups, war veterans, that along with boiling pot of racism which was so prevalent then.

I left feeling LA elated after a very successful fair, I sold most of the work I took and to be honest, with hindsight I should have taken more!
