Wanna Be King
My latest print, “Wanna Be King”, is the first in a new series. It plays with a theme I’ve used before: the mask. A mask hides, but it also reveals, and this idea runs through the whole collection. It’s about how we all present different versions of ourselves depending on the situation.
The print also reflects on the fragility of strongmen. By combining royal imagery with the mask, I wanted to show how authority often relies on appearances. This echoes my earlier work, Rich Enough to Be Batman, which mixed humour with a more serious message.
Like that piece, “Wanna Be King” has two sides. On the surface, it’s playful and a little cheeky. But underneath, it asks bigger questions about leadership, control, and how fragile democracy can be.
In the end, “Wanna Be King” is more than just a picture. It’s a reminder that symbols of power – like crowns – aren’t always what they seem. Sometimes they’re not just tradition, but a way of hiding control.
This limited edition silkscreen print, released in 2025, features Prince Charles wearing a mask. Available online here.
